Video Premiere – Noah Noah – The Lie
Noah Noah have released a brand new video for ‘The Lie’ Alive & Amplified caught up with frontman Fraser to talk 2016, videos and future plans.
It’s around about this time of year when I start to take a look at bands who I am expecting to have a massive 2017. Edinburgh based 4 piece Noah Noah are one of these bands. A band who just formed in March 2016 they certainly hit the ground running. After releasing debut single ‘Lips’ they have toured the UK, played a number of festivals, they have had sessions on ‘Live at 5’ and on the Janice Forsyth show on BBC Radio Scotland. They have gigged and gigged playing supports with Model Aeroplanes, Jakil, Kirsten Adamson and Scottish veterans Idlewild as well as a show at the legendary King Tuts. What a 2016 for an up and coming band. So is that it for 2016? Not a chance! They are having an end of year party at The Mash House (to quote Fraser “All roads lead to The Mash House”) on 15th December.
The night is to celebrate the end to an amazing first year as a band, and the completion of the ‘Cover Up’ project. ‘Cover Up is the culmination of the 7” vinyl cover design project, showcasing the incredible creative work of Edinburgh College Art and Design students. There will be music, art, booze and all round joy. As well as Noah Noah playing on the night there will be more of Alive & Amplified’s favourites from 2016 playing. Posable Action Figures who recently launched their brand new video at and A&A showcase, Wylde, who are playing Hit The Road this week and Start Static.
Ailsa caught up with Fraser from Noah Noah to talk about the band and video.
So tell us about the band and how you guys met?
“In the band we have Matt (keyboard), Rowan (drums), Neil (bass) and myself, Fraser (guitar and vocals). Rowan and I went to school together and have been playing in bands since, I met Matt at an open mic night at the Pear Tree many years ago and then met Neil through training to be an actor. We’ve been playing together as Noah Noah for around a year now”.
Where did the name Noah Noah come from?
“At the start we found ourselves writing songs with nautical themes which I think for me probably came from growing up by the sea. The name Noah Noah came from the story of Noah’s Ark, so I guess you could say it’s a bit of a biblical reference”.
How would you describe your music for people who haven’t heard it before?
“I’d describe it as heavy synth-pop that’s vocal led”.
What have your highlights been of 2016?
“We’ve been lucky to do some really cool stuff this year – we played King Tuts, we supported Idlewild at Dunbar Daytripper Festival, did a UK tour and played with some of our favourite bands, Model Aeroplanes and Jakil. All of us as a band also did Movember which went very well for everyone except Neil who didn’t manage to grow a moustache. It’s a great cause that we are all very supportive of.”
What was the inspiration behind new single, The Lie?
“In a nutshell, it’s about telling a lie and getting found out. It’s a pretty old song though that I wrote way back in 2012 when I was in an another band but it’s been reworked to sound as it does now”.
Where did you film the video for the single and how did you enjoy the whole process?
“We filmed the video in Music Base down in Leith. Gareth from the band Posable Action Figures shot, edited and produced it. It’s the first music video we’ve done as Noah Noah and we loved the whole process. We just wanted to have a bit of fun and I think that shows in the video”.
Lastly, what can we expect going forward from Noah Noah?
“New music and lots more shows!”
Tickets for the gig are on £4 and are available at www.noahnoah.bigcartel.com
