Track Of The Week – Swim Deep – To Feel Good

Track Of The Week – Swim Deep – To Feel Good

This week’s Alive & Amplified Track of the Week is the brand new single ‘To Feel Good’ from Swim Deep.

Back in 2013 I heard a track on radio or a playlist (were they a thing back then?) with the lyric ‘Don’t just dream in your sleep, that’s just lazy’. I instantly knew that song would become a favourite. It was called ‘Honey’ by Swim Deep. Their debut album ‘Where The Heaven Are We?’ was one of my most played albums of that year as it was filled amazingly positive lyrics.

Their second album ‘Mothers’ released in 2015 kind of passed me by. After touring with The 1975 the band took a break in 2017 and it was almost the end of them. Until, last week, when they emerged from hibernation, wiped the sleep out of their eyes and released ‘To Feel Good’, for me, their most positive work since I first heard ‘Honey’.

Featuring Margate’s Social Singing choir, the track’s a big statement and an even bigger song that transcends the group’s intrinsic feel-good factor and DIY ethos of the early days through to the synth-pop strains of MothersEvoking a dose of self-loathing in the shape of a particularly dark but wonderfully shot video, To Feel Good opens another chapter in what thus far has been a life-affirming roller-coaster of reality, struggle and proof that you can keep going.

‘To Feel Good’ is the first track to taken from the album ‘Emerald Classics’ which will be released in October and the band describe is as “an album for dreamers and pub jukeboxes.” You can count me in!
