It’s been a while since we have done anything here at A&A. We can put that down to COVID, a lack of gigs, motivation levels being low or whatever. Sometimes all you need is a song to really hit home and last week I got an email from Lizzie Reid’s team with her new single ‘Seamless’ and it has inspired me to get the show back on the road.
Newly signed to Seven Four Seven Six (Matilda Mann, Matt Maltese), emerging Glaswegian singer-songwriter Lizzie Reid’s songs are microcosms of love, loss and heartbreak experienced in Glasgow’s streets, nightclubs and bars. She has supported the likes of The Staves and Nilufer Yanya and was scheduled to play this year’s Great Escape.
Reid recalls breaking into tears when she first listened to the demo of new single ‘Seamless’.
“I listened to the demo on the train from London to Glasgow. I had tears streaming down my face. That was when I realised, I had written something deeply personal to me.”
The haunting depths of Reid’s vocal reach the farthest corners of the room. Meanwhile, the elegant, stirring strings echo Reid’s emotion, immersing you entirely in their thrall.
The result is a poignant take on a break-up; a mature, steely-eyed reflection of all things lost, and all things gained.
