We are have barely started 2019 (January is lasting forever, right?) but there has already been a load of great new music coming out of Scotland. We have picked our 5 favourites from January for you to check out now.
Heavy Rapids – ‘Going Down’ Single
Glasgow’s punk scene has been picking up pace in the last few years with bands like Rascalton, The Dunts, Pleasure Heads & Babystrange all releasing strong music and putting on electric live shows. Heavy Rapids are no different. This newest single has picked up plays on Radio 1 and coverage in NME since its release a couple of weeks ago. The opening line asks “May I Have Your Attention Please?” You have it!! See them live at Sneaky Pete’s in Edinburgh as part of Independent Venue Week on Saturday 2nd Feb.
Bossy Love – ‘Whiplash’ EP
From punk to full-on pop. This is why Scotland’s music scene is so exciting right now. For every Heavy Rapids there is a Bossy Love. One of my favourite live acts in Scotland Bossy Love have just released their newest EP ‘Whiplash’. Amandah & John met when their previous bands were both supporting The Futureheads in Dundee. A friendship blossomed and Bossy Love was born a few years later. You should definitely go and see them live. Your next opportunities are at Mac Arts in Galashiels on Friday 1st Feb and Saturday 2nd Feb at Stereo in Glasgow where they play with the equally brilliant Free Love.
OK Button – ‘Flesh & Blood’ Single
3 releases (and a Leonard Cohen cover) under their belt and OK Button have already become one of the most exciting new bands to emerge from Scotland in the last 6 months. Their latest offering ‘Flesh & Blood’ illustrates lyrically the mental strains that love on ourselves and those close to us, this coupled with an equally as moving video makes this one of my highlights of the month. There are no live dates scheduled at the minute but I am pretty sure this band will be playing at a number of festivals up and down the country come summertime.
L-Space – Been Here Before – Single
L-Space just keep on releasing new music. Their debut album only came out in September. Since then they are re-released EP ‘Money Can Be Exchanged For Goods And Services’ and now they have dropped a brand new single ‘Been Here Before’. Not only are they continuously releasing great new music they are also very keen on playing live. They have a trio of live dates coming up in Glasgow soon – The Old Hairdressers – 8th Feb, Glad Cafe – 15th Feb supporting bis and 9th March – Glad Cafe. Edinburgh people keep an eye out for an announcement soon.
Man Of Moon – ‘Ride The Waves’ Single
Edinburgh duo Man Of Moon returned with a new single last week and we love it. ‘Ride The Waves’ is taken from the EP ‘Chemicals’ which comes out on 8th March. The new track, produced by Tom Furse of The Horrors, aligns with the psychedelic stylings the duo are now ever-synonymous with They are out on tour around the UK in February and March. Have a look at all the tour dates here —> Man Of Moon Tour Dates Get out and see these guys live.
