Review – Grace Carter – Edinburgh Summer Sessions – 14th August
Brighton’s Grace Carter was in Edinburgh this week supporting Rag N Bone Man in Princes Street Gardens as part of the Summer Sessions.
Spotify playlists are a wonderful thing. In doing research for the Access All Areas podcast I regularly listen to the New Music Friday playlist. Way back in June 2017 I stumbled across a track called ‘Silence’ by Grace Carter and it instantly went into the playlist for AAA 3. She has since gone onto to release her debut EP ‘Saving Grace’ She played an amazing set at The Great Escape and I was delighted when she was announced as main support to Rag N Bone Man for his Edinburgh Summer Session show.
It’s a typical miserable August evening in Edinburgh but a large crowd has already assembled in the Princes Street gardens and have been suitably put in the mood for a gig by an excellent opening set from local lads The LaFontaines.
Grace Carter comes on stage and opens up with the title track of her debut EP ‘Saving Grace’ and you can already see the individuals who are only here for Rag N Bone Man stop what they are doing and listen up. With only having a 30-minute slot she thunders through tracks from the EP, including my personal favourite ‘Silhouette’ before playing a brand new track ‘Fight For You’. Penultimate track and debut single ‘Silence’ has the crowd reaching for their phones to record. The final song on the night ‘Why Her, Not Me’ is her next single which will be released next Friday (24th August).
Grace Carter will return to Scotland as part of her UK & Ireland in October when she plays at Nice & Sleazy’s in Glasgow on the 25th. All dates are below.
