Pynch release video for lo-fi debut single ‘Only’

‘Only’ is the debut single from London/Ramsgate’s Pynch, and follows on from a fantastic year for the lo-fi indie group. Performances across the capital and plays from BBC Introducing and BBC Radio 6 culminated in a support slot with Peter Doherty and The Puta Madres at the Kentish Town Forum on May 12th.

Pynch started life as a set of demos written and recorded by Spencer Enock in his parent’s basement in Ramsgate. On moving to London to study music, Spencer met his bandmates-to-be and Pynch was born, combining reverb-drenched vocals, shimmering synths and week-long guitar solos. The bedroom-pop production values with a large-scale sound akin to Arcade Fire and The War on Drugs, act as snapshot into the mind of a disillusioned millennial, where Spencer’s lyrics explore the personal and political through a refreshing combination of melancholy and humour.

An unwavering declaration of love, ‘Only’ is an ode to the certainty the emotion offers in our ever-changing world; a constant in amongst the unpredictable. Inspired by the works of Beach Fossils and LCD Soundsystem, ‘Only’ was self-produced at Pynch’s home studio, a.k.a an abandoned yet atmospheric building in South West London. The single’s video, made in collaboration with Margate-based artist Rory Strudwick, offers a hypnotic blend of colour and waves in keeping with the cinematic composition of the track.
