Alive & Amplified takes a look at some of the new releases that have come out in the last few weeks or are out soon.
There has been an abundance of amazing music coming out of Scotland in the last few week and there is some great stuff coming out in the next few weeks too. Rather than do individual posts for each one here is part 1 of A&A’s round up of what’s new.
The Van T’s – ‘Coming Of Age’ EP – Out Now
Readers of this blog will know that The Van T’s are favourites here at Alive & Amplified. The Glasgow based 4-piece are one of the most exciting bands coming out of Scotland just now. Latest EP ‘Coming Of Age’ only strengthens this. After triumphant shows at Wide Day’s, XpoNorth & T In The Park you can see The Van T’s at Electric Fields in August.
Nieves – ‘Roughcast’/’Dove’ Double A-Side – Out 19th August
Nieves formed as duo with Brendan Dafters (Vocals & Guitar) and Herre De Leur (piano) however have since teamed up with Martin Murray (Guitar) & Ross Forsythe (Drums) to enhance the sound and it sounds great. This double a-side is a follow-up to ‘Broken Oar’ which received radio play on BBC Radio Scotland, Radio X & BBC Introducing to name but a few. If you like Frightened Rabbit then check this out.
Acrylic – Overrun – Single – Out Now
Glasgow’s Acrylic released ‘Awake’ earlier in the year and are now back with brand new single ‘Overrun’ which is (at the time of writing) the A&A Track Of The Week. The 5 piece, who met at Art College launched the single at Edinburgh’s Electric Circus. I am looking forward to hearing more from Acrylic later this year.
A Sudden Burst Of Colour – Ambivalence EP – Out Now
Ian brought this EP into the studio the other week when we were recording Summerhall Live, We played opening track ‘The Fall’ and it was 7 and a half minutes of pure bliss. Soaring guitars for the first half of the song then working into more electro/echo guitars and booming drums. This track reminds me on The Music’s instrumental stuff. Cracking EP all round.
