This week’s Alive & Amplified Gig Of The Week is VanIves at The Mash House with support coming from EMILIE.
What is is they say about buses? You wait ages for one and the 2 come along at the same time. This week’s Gig Of The Week was a tough decision with Welsh Electro-pop outfit Art School Girlfriend playing Sneaky Pete’s along with Stillhound and Super Inuit on the same night. However, seeing as this is predominantly a Scottish Music Blog we will focus on the very exciting VanIves.
VanIves, childhood friends Stuart Ramage and Roan Ballantine, return to Edinburgh after a sold-out show in Sneaky Pete’s in the Spring and on the back of the release of their second single ‘Corder’. They’ve had support slots with, A&A favourite, Be Charlotte as well as SG Lewis and Tokio Myers. I saw them towards the tail end of 2017 with Lakyoto and was instantly impressed. I am looking forward to seeing how the live show has developed. I am hearing rumours of an excellent visual show.
Support on the night comes from Edinburgh’s Emily Atkinson AKA EMILIE. EMILIE has been locked away in the studio in 2018 recording material which is due to be released early 2019. She’s occasionally escaped to play support slots, including a night at Hidden Door with the amazing Sylvan Esso and she’s also supported Be Charlotte. She has also been collaborating with Stillhound on a few tracks namely ‘Before We Shut Our Eyes’ which is a former A&A Track Of The Week.
VanIves + EMILE, The Mash House, Edinburgh, 10th October, £8 (+bf)
